For a very long time, I wondered what I was on planet earth to do. Was there a reason I was born a girl and into my family? Does my race, country of birth or nationality matter? Did God create me for a purpose? If yes, how do I figure it out?
Would it make any difference to my purpose if I were tall, short, fat, slim or disabled? Does it matter if my parents didn’t plan me or I was born out of wedlock? What if I was adopted or a product of rape? Do I have many or just one purpose in life? These and many questions led me on a self-imposed mission to find out what purpose is all about and what I was supposed to do with my life.
You want to know something amazing? I found out that God does not do anything without a plan and that includes sending you and me down here to planet earth. It was all for a purpose. So what is purpose? You may ask. Well, it is said to be the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists. This means that everything, whether created by God or made by man has a purpose. In other words, we are a product of purpose.
Just in case you are not aware, your life has a purpose. It is the reason you were born and the very reason you are alive today. This means that your birth was not a mistake. Your race or country of birth was not a mistake either. You were not born a female or male because that was what your parents wanted. No, it was all by God’s design.
Your life was planned by God and for a purpose. You are here on earth and alive at this time because God ordained it so. He created you for a purpose. In Jeremiah 1:5 (NLT), God said “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.”
Have you ever asked ‘why am I here on earth’? ‘Does my life have a meaning’? Then let me congratulate you because you are about to find out. The answer lies within your purpose and how can you find out your purpose? It’s all about discovery! You can only discover your purpose by asking your manufacturer some fundamental questions.
What would you do if you want to find out about how a product functions and how best to fully maximise it? The answer is simple – you go to the manufacturer and when you can’t meet him one-on-one, you read the manual provided by the manufacturer. By the virtue of the information provided, you will find out how to best use the product.
You are a product created by God to serve humanity. He created you as a solution to someone’s problem and this is your purpose! To know the exact problem you are a solution to, you need to ask your manufacturer – in this case, God. He is waiting to answer you.
Not knowing what your purpose is, will lead to frustration because you will be functioning abnormally in the place where you were not meant to be. That would amount to abuse of purpose. It has been said that when a purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable. Can you imagine using an ipad as a chopping board in the kitchen? What do you think will happen to the ipad? That would be disastrous!
The only way to live a life of fulfilment is to align with your purpose. To do this, you will have to ask God some serious question! As Lanre Olusola rightly puts it ‘asking God fundamental questions will help you discover your purpose’. Questions such as:
• Who am I?
• Why am I here on earth?
• What solution was I born to be?
• Who has the problem that I am a solution to?
• Where are they?
• What is the best medium to reach them?
• How do I commit myself to solving the problems?
