How To Turn Your Talent Into Business

How To Turn Your Talent Into Business

Turning your talent into business is not as hard as most people think. First you need to know what talent is all about, identify your talents and see which one is profitable.

A Talent is simply the skill that someone naturally has to do something that is hard. There are some people who can easily do certain things while others need to be taught and even work very hard in order to do the same thing. And in some cases, most people never get it no matter how hard they tried.

Talent is categorized into two – inherent and acquired talent. For the sake of this post, I will focus only on the inherent talent which is defined as an inbuilt talent – natural ability you are born with that enables you do something hard especially without being taught.

Talent is usually expressed through creativity or athletic abilities in most cases. Although no human being is without a talent however, some people believe that they do not have any talent at all. They argued that God bypassed them when He was distributing talents. The funny thing is, I used to belong to this category. Eventually, I realized that this wasn’t true.

We all have a special ability that allows us to do something very well even when others find it difficulty. However, the giver of talent in His infinite wisdom distributed it to everyone according to his or her capacity. That is why some people have just one, while others have multiple talents.

Finding your talent is all about discovery and when you discover your talent, you will be able to tap into the amazing resources life has to offer you. If you haven’t discovered your talents yet, we are going to focus on helping you do so today. There are several ways to discover your talent but the simplest way is to ask yourself deep questions and answer as truthfully as you can.

So let’s do these exercises below:

  1. What activities thrilled me as a child or when growing up?
  2. I lose track of time when I am….?
  3. What do I really yearn to do?
  4. What help do people often ask me for?

Now let’s look at how to develop your talents and turn them into business. It is important to note that having talent(s) is not enough. If you want to turn your talent into business, you must develop your raw talent into skill because people don’t pay for raw talent, they pay for skill.

Your skill is what attracts the right people for your business. Therefore, hone in on your natural talent. Nurture it through regular practice and grooming. You can only do something exceptionally well through exposure, practice, grooming and hard work. In addition to your talent, you need to identify what your passion is and activate it. Passion makes all the difference. It is the fuel that keeps your fire burning and helps your talent to blossom.

The easiest way to make money from your talent or turn your talent into a profitable business is to identify the problem(s) in your environment or community your talent can solve. Look for a need and create a product or service around that need. Find someone who needs the solution your talent can offer and they will be willing to pay you.

Develop your talent into skills and competencies that people not only want but also need – a ‘must’ have for them. Then trade your talent in exchange for the value they offer.

Raw talent will profit you nothing therefore, to build a profitable business through your talent, you need to develop your raw talent, hone in on it and discover the problem you were created to solve. Find the people with the problem and package your developed talent into a product or service. Remember, start small and grow big.
